A Community Cornerstone with a Legacy of Sweetness
The Chocolate Shell has a long tradition of being the “rite of passage” destination for Old Lyme Elementary School students when they reach the age where they are allowed to walk independently to our candy shoppe. It is not unusual for nearly 30 young patrons to stop by our candy and chocolate boutique on a Friday after school. These young patrons can enjoy an entire room devoted to treats that thrill their taste buds or explore our other selections for a new flavor experience.
Why We Do What We Do
“I love when the kids come in,” Bren Buono, one of our current owners, said, “and what’s really exciting is that lots of them [venture] beyond the kids’ items. They’ll get their penny candy, then they’ll come up to the counter and choose a few special chocolates from the cases. They are adventurous. They are starting to expand their tastes, trying interesting things.”
Nothing makes her and our team at The Chocolate Shell happier than bringing joy and meaning to customers, whether they’re young consumers unearthing unexpected treasures or adult patrons discovering our nostalgia collection. Our vintage confections even inspire older customers to ask us for a particular treat from a bygone era with a special place in their hearts. These sweet windows into the past are not only a marvelous gift for a friend of the same generation but also a delightful way to share history with younger family members.
